Opening of the Steamboat Museum aboard the steamboat Vyšehrad

Aboard one of the most beautiful cultural monuments of Czech technical history — the steamboat Vyšehrad — a unique steamboat museum will open on 4 September 2025.

Visitors will find an exhibition mapping the rich history of steam navigation and life on the river, as well as a glimpse into the future of waterway transport, which is heading towards fully electric catamarans.

What you'll see on board

• An exhibition of the Czech construction set Merkur, which this year celebrates 100 years, including an almost two-metre model of the steamboat Vyšehrad built precisely from Merkur.
• Works by children involved in the contest within the project "The Vltava — famous and navigable".
• A fully renovated steam engine, the restored original beige paintwork and the restored wooden panelling of the mayor's salon.

The steamboat will moreover have its own postbox and a unique stamp, so it will be possible to send postcards directly from the deck. An interesting fact is also that Vyšehrad is the same length as the Petřín lookout tower laid on its side.

The festive atmosphere will be enhanced by the arrival of a raft carrying water from the source of the Vltava, which will be handed up onto the deck to the sound of the fanfares of the Schwarzenberg Guard. The water will then be carried on the steamboat Vltava to Kampa accompanied by the Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Mrs Eva Pavlová, wife of the President of the Republic, has confirmed her attendance at the event.

• 5–7 September: 10:00–18:00
• Weekends in September: 10:00–18:00
• Groups and schools: by prior arrangement
